Kandyan Dance is a famous tradition that originate in the historical Kandy Kingdom of Sri Lanka. Far more than just a performance, it is a sacred art form often performed in temples and during the grand Dalada Perahera festival. One of its most important parts is the Ves dance, known for its powerful movements and beautiful silver costumes. These elaborate ornaments and symbolic masks are not just for show, they carry deep religious meanings that have been respected for centuries.

     


                    The true pulse of the dance lies in the rhythmic precision of the Gata Beraya drum. There are also special dances called Vannam that copy the movements of animals and nature. To keep this art alive, it is carefully passed down from teachers to students through a strict traditional system.

                     Passed down for generations, Kandyan dance remains a proud symbol of Sri Lankan culture and identity today. Even in modern times, this ancient style continues to inspire new stage performances, showing the world the timeless spirit of our island.

    My Reflection on Social Service 💫 I am involved in social work because helping humanity gives me a sense of happiness and freedom. It is truly rewarding to see how our actions can positively impact someone else's life. I have learned a lot through the social service programs I recently joined. It is a great privilege to be able to provide small amount of comfort to people living through life's difficulties.        Every act of kindness, no matter how small, creates a ripple effect that can change a person's entire perspective on the world.
